Moisés Paiewonsky has earned a Bachelor of Music in music education Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida UF and a Master of Music in performance trombone from the University of Michigan U of M. Currently, he holds the position of Assistant Professor of Music Trombone at The University of Arizona UA in Tucson where, in addition to maintaining a strong studio and directing the trombone ensemble, he is the Associate Director of the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble.
New to Tucson, we are a husband and wife team. Arlette is a soprano and I accompany her at the piano and play harmonica.
Making his own entrance onto the local CD scene, Tucson pianist Nick Stanley presents a light-fingered showcase of straight-ahead jazz with a hefty blues chaser. Each of the 13 tracks is inspired by an earlier, often iconographic, recording that influenced Stanley's even-handed approach to improvisation. The album's liner notes make these connections clear, so listeners can also appreciate this young musician's respect for the pre-fusion era of jazz when romance and lyricism were at least as important as sizzling technique. Among those cited for their influence are Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Cannonball Adderly, Horace Silver and Gene Harris. Stanley plays with an easy confidence in the magic of swing, a belief that sweet rhythm can always put a smile on the listener's face. The joy is in knowing this pianist can find so much worth grooving on, no matter if it's a late-night blues or a sentimental rumination.
Reno del Mar is a dynamic instrumental ensemble that performs beautiful, original guitar music in a wide range of styles that include latin jazz, adult contemporary, Spanish, western swing, tango, gypsy, flamenco, Mexican, bebop and blues. The influences of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Django Rheinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Duke Ellington, Bob Wills and others permeate Reno del Mar’s compositions and playing styles.
Cool Breeze is a musical ensemble that specializes in Latin-American music. They have been active since 1983 and been the recipients of performance and music education awards and grants from The Arizona Commission on the Arts, Tucson Pima Arts Council, The Tucson Partnership Inc. and The Tucson Jazz Society.
Jesse started gigging professionally in 1958 at the age of 10 playing in the Frank Estrada Band along with his father. He moved to Tucson in the summer of 1962 and led/performed with dozens of combos and big bands. He co-led, arranged and directed both the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and the Rudy Sudigala Big Band.
Dan Griffin is one of Arizona's finest guitarists. As a student of the instrument for 42 years, including a stint a North Texas where he was lucky enough to study with Herb Ellis. Throughout his career Dan has appeared onstage with numerous musical greats including BeBop Legend Artt Frank, , contemporary artists such as Steve Laury and Brian Bromberg, as well as mainstream artists such as Chris Issak and Donny Osmond. Mr. Griffin has authored 2 method books, "Melodic Compounds", and " Open String Voicings for Jazz guitar". These days Mr. Griffin divides his time between playing the "Good Rooms" in Southern Arizona, and teaching a few lucky students, and arranging Mozart Sonatas for 8 string classical guitar.
